OUR STORY

Two Families.
Two Histories.
One British Pottery.

British Flowerpots was founded in 2024, but our roots run deep. We’re the coming together of two proud, family-run businesses: Naylor Industries—a fourth-generation company with a history dating back to 1890—and Smith & Jennings, a passionate husband-and-wife team who began crafting high-quality pots in South Wales in 2013.

Together, we bring a blend of traditional craftsmanship, modern thinking, and a shared love of pottery. Though the name is new, our story is built on decades of experience, character, and care.

CHAPTER TWO

A lifetime in ceramics

The Smith Family

Simon and Marie's story began with a shared love of ceramics. Both trained in the field before their careers took them overseas, working in Asia and developing specialist knowledge in ceramic production, design and glazing.

After years working internationally, the family returned to Britain with an ambition to open their own pottery.

2013

Smith & Jennings is born

Simon & Marie established Smith & Jennings, in the Rhondda Valley South Wales. Their son Oliver later joined the business to support the family business.

Their distinctive glazed pots went on to become the foundation of the collection we still produce today.

2023

When two stories became one.

By 2023 Smith & Jennings had reached capacity at it's South Wales pottery and was looking for room to grow. At the same time, Naylors had halted their production of Yorkshire Flowerpots and began exploring the companies future within British Garden pottery.

Conversations between the two businesses revealed a clear path forward. Combine Naylor's manufacturing heritage and facilities with Smith & Jennings specialist ceramic knowledge, designs and production methods.

Two family businesses, one shared vision.

2024

British Flowerpots is born.

British Flowerpots opened it's pottery doors in South Yorkshire, in 2024, as a new independently operated joint-venture between Naylors and Smith & Jennings.

The name may be new,

but the knowledge & passion behind it isn't.

Today we are proudly family-run and employ a fantastic team of skilled ceramists, production operatives and support staff.

We bring together traditional ceramic knowledge and modern production technology to create British-made garden pottery on a scale that allows the craft to continue, evolve and thrive.
